Hunt: Showdown to get massive engine and console update

Hunt: Showdown is a co-op focused PvPvE shooter from the team at Crytek – responsible for the CryEngine. Two years ago the game received a basic update to boost PS5 and Xbox Series X performance to 60fps. Now however, the team have announced that Hunt: Showdown will be getting an engine upgrade alongside native current-gen console ports – unfortunately at the expense of last-gen players.

The team at Crytek released a new episode in its ‘developer insight’ series, where they revealed the roadmap for Hunt: Showdown stretching to the first half of 2024. This period is set to bring with it a great deal of changes to the game, but in particular an upgrade to the CryEngine.

This update will see both console and PC players benefit from improvements upon its release, with current-gen console owners in particular seeing massive upgrades thanks to the announcement of native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S ports for Hunt: Showdown.

Unfortunately, as we have seen with the likes of Cyberpunk 2077, this update will see last-gen players left behind, as PS4 and Xbox One support will officially end in April of next year – meaning the multiplayer-focused title will no longer be playable.

That said, the current-gen upgrade will be free to all and will see your account carried over, meaning progress will not be lost. Finally, the update will also be accompanied by the addition of a 4th map which will take place in an entirely new biome.

With Hunt: Showdown officially into its 5th year on the market, it is exciting to see that the team at Crytek are putting more resources into the game’s backend systems, ultimately extending its lifecycle by quite a great deal. Hopefully the PS5 and Series X|S ports end up being comprehensive.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
