Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth launches in February, will be PS5 exclusive for at least 3 months

Much like Final Fantasy 7 Remake, the sequel, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, will be a timed exclusive for PlayStation consoles. Yesterday during Sony's latest State of Play stream, a ton of new details about the game dropped, including a February release date.

We're getting two major Final Fantasy titles in quick succession. Final Fantasy 16 launched in June this year and on February 29th 2024, we'll be returning to the world of Final Fantasy 7. Rebirth is Part Two of the Final Fantasy 7 remake, and will ship on two discs, indicating a much larger game compared to Part One.

In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, we'll get access to new fully playable characters, including Sephiroth. The game will be exclusive to PS5 for at least three months. However, it is worth noting that this does not mean that we can expect a PC release once that time runs out. In the case of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, the game launched with 12 months of PS4 exclusivity, and then that period was extended afterwards. The PC version didn't arrive until around 18 months after the game's initial release, albeit with expansion content included.

In the case of Final Fantasy 16, the game is exclusive to PS5 for six months, but Square Enix has warned that a PC version won't be ready in time. It is highly likely that even if the exclusivity period runs out, we'll still have to wait an extra few months before seeing Rebirth on additional platforms, if not longer.

KitGuru Says: Final Fantasy 16's sales were considered lacklustre, in part due to PS5 exclusivity. If Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth performs similarly, then I do wonder if Square Enix will start to seriously consider ending platform exclusivity deals in favour of more widely available multi-platform releases.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
