Computex 2023: Nvidia unveils ULMB 2, AI tech for game devs and more

While we are just a week removed from the RTX 4060 Ti launch, Nvidia still came to Computex armed with new announcements. For starters, DLSS continues to catch on with developers, surpassing 300 supported games and apps. However, the biggest announcement centres around new AI technology.

The first major announcement is one we've already covered – ULMB 2 for 360Hz monitors. Thanks to advancements in panel response times, Nvidia has found a way to control the monitor's backlight and synchronise it to provide greater motion clarity. Better yet, the upgrade to ULMB 2 will be free for those who have a compatible monitor.

With DLSS continuing to gain steam, the next wave of DLSS-supported games has been announced, including the likes of Diablo IV, System Shock, Honor of Kings, Ash Echoes, Legend of Ymir and Party Animals. Nvidia Reflex is also coming to more titles, including Redfall, Returnal, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, Diablo IV and Metal: Hellsinger.

Nvidia's big moves are all happening on the AI front. During the keynote address, Nvidia announced ACE, the Avatar Cloud Engine, for games. Using ACE, developers will be able to create more intelligent and lifelike NPCs for games, including natural language interactions, customised speech, animations and more. Speaking on ACE, John Spitzer, VP of developer and performance technology at Nvidia, said: “Generative AI has the potential to revolutionize the interactivity players can have with game characters and dramatically increase immersion in games. Building on our expertise in AI and decades of experience working with game developers, NVIDIA is spearheading the use of generative AI in games.”

Generative AI is an area Nvidia will continue to invest in, through tools like ACE for Games, ChatGPT, Adobe Firefly and DLSS.
