Ransomware group targets Samsung, leaks 190GB of data

A group known as LAPSUS$ has been making the news recently after gaining access to Nvidia's systems and stealing a trove of data, some of which has leaked. Now, the group is targeting another major tech giant – Samsung.

As reported by Bleeping Computer, the group has gained access to Samsung's internal systems, stealing 190GB of data. The data stolen is said to include documentation and code for unannounced Samsung projects, as well as source code for Samsung's account authentication systems and even biometric data.

Samsung is already aware of the situation and is currently “assessing” it. In Nvidia's case, a company employee fell for a phishing scam and unwittingly granted access to attackers, who then installed ransomware on systems. The situation is likely very similar for Samsung, although the Korean tech giant has not yet confirmed details of the cyber attack.

Samsung is currently “assessing the situation”, so expect another update later this week.

KitGuru Says: In Nvidia's case, the group called for open source drivers and the removal of anti-mining tech on GeForce graphics cards. What the group wants out of Samsung still remains to be seen.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
