Nvidia reportedly launching RTX 3050 for desktop in January

The first quarter of 2022 is building up to be quite interesting for gamers on a tighter budget. Besides the new entry-level Radeon graphics cards, Nvidia is also reportedly launching the RTX 3050 for desktop during this same period, more specifically on January 27th.

That's according to @hongxing2020, a new leaker that has been sharing rumours about Nvidia's GPUs, including the release date of the RTX 2060 12GB. There is no mention of an RTX 3050 Ti for desktop and with the RTX 2060 12GB launching, we don’t expect to see one any time soon.

According to previous reports, the RTX 3050 was initially planned to launch with the GA107 GPU, the same chip used for its laptop variant. However, somewhere along the way the plan changed and the RTX 3050 for desktop will now reportedly use the GA106 GPU, with 3072 CUDA cores enabled and 8GB of GDDR6 across a 128-bit memory bus.

Besides the RTX 3050, during Q1 2022, AMD should also release the Radeon RX 6500 XT and the RX 6400. Intel will also be launching its first Arc Alchemist GPUs in the first half of 2022.
