SIFU gets un-delayed; launching earlier than expected

SIFU is one of the most interesting indie titles currently in development. First announced at the PlayStation State of Play earlier this year in February, the third-person kung-fu fighting game was initially intended to launch in 2021 before being pushed back to 2022. In a surprise twist however, the game has been un-delayed somewhat, and is now launching earlier than expected.

In a PlayStation blog post detailing the combat of SIFU, the developers at Sloclap revealed that “We are pleased to announce that Sifu will be released on the PlayStation Store on February 8th, 2022. We have made good progress on getting our game ship-ready and we are excited to be able to launch Sifu two weeks earlier than anticipated. To mark the occasion, we have prepared two brand-new gameplay videos that will be revealed today on PlayStation's networks.”

As mentioned, SIFU was initially intended to launch sometime in 2021. Back in July however, the game was pushed to 2022, with another high-level update in August revealing the game’s new release date of 22.02.22.

While the updated release date of the 8th of February is nowhere nearly as visually pleasing, fans will undoubtedly be excited to be able to get their hands on the game sooner. What’s more, bringing the release date forward means that the game is nearing completion. With so many games receiving multiple delays and still crunching developers, it is nice to see a studio give a game more time than it needs – ensuring a refined game and a healthy work environment.
