AMD Zen 4 and RDNA 3 ‘on track’ to launch in 2022

During AMD's Q2 2021 earnings call, Dr. Lisa Su, the company's CEO, confirmed that the next-gen Zen 4 architecture and RDNA 3 graphics architecture are still ‘on track', targeting a 2022 launch.

It's common for a company to update its shareholders about future products during an earnings call, and AMD is no different. To assure that the upcoming CPU core and graphics architectures are still on track, Lisa Su herself confirmed that AMD remains “on-track to launch next-generation products in 2022”, including the first 5nm-based Zen 4 CPUs and RDNA 3 GPUs.

During the call, AMD's CEO said that the ongoing chip shortage should continue throughout 2021, but things may improve in early 2022. Lastly, we also learned that the first units of AMD's Instinct MI200 accelerator are currently being shipped to customers.

AMD has not yet confirmed much about its next-gen CPUs and GPUs. Expected to hit the shelves in the second half of 2022, Zen 4 CPUs should succeed Zen 3+ processors featuring 3D V-Cache, set to release in late 2021.

As for RDNA 3 graphics, we will most likely see the first GPUs in late 2022, and eventually, RDNA 3 will be used for integrated graphics solutions as well.
