Latest AMD Adrenalin driver reduces power consumption for 4K YouTube playback

Following on from the RX 6600 XT launch earlier this month, AMD's driver team has been working on improvements. The latest Adrenalin Software driver makes several improvements to efficiency, particularly when it comes to 4K video playback on sites like YouTube. 

ComputerBase took the time to test power consumption across the Radeon RX 6000 series of desktop GPUs with the latest AMD Adrenalin 12.8.1 driver and compared them to results from launch. As it turns out, AMD has been able to further improve efficiency for RX 6000 series graphics cards in certain workloads.

One such “workload” is YouTube 4K 60FPS video playback. Looking at the results, you can see that power consumption reduced significantly in all cards. However, this isn't the case when HDR is enabled, where power consumption remains the same, regardless of the driver.

With the Radeon RX 6600 XT, AMD has also been able to reduce power consumption for 4K multi-monitor setups, bringing it on par with most Nvidia RTX 30 series cards.
