Alienware launches its first AMD-powered laptop in 14 years

Alienware has recently announced the Alienware m15 R5 Ryzen Edition, marking the return of AMD-powered laptops to its extensive portfolio of gaming PCs. The last laptop Alienware launched with an AMD processor was back in 2007, featuring the now ancient AMD Turion 64 Mobile ML-44.

The new Alienware m15 R5 Ryzen Edition will be available with the Ryzen 7 5800H or the Ryzen 9 5900HX. As for graphics, it will come equipped with either an RTX 3060 or an RTX 3070, both with a maximum TDP of 115W and a 10W boost. For memory and storage, customers will get to choose between 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB of DDR4-3200 and from 256GB of SSD storage, up to 4TB. There will be three 15.6-inch display options to choose from: 1080p/165Hz covering 100% of the sRGB spectrum, 1080p/360Hz covering 100% of the sRGB spectrum, and 1440p/240Hz covering 100% of the DCI-P3 wide gamut.

Featuring a redesigned chassis finished with Silky-Smooth High-Endurance paint, the new Alienware laptop comes with a low-profile mechanical keyboard co-developed with Cherry MX with per-key RGB lighting. Aside from being the first AMD-powered laptop from Alienware in 14 years, this is also the first Legend 2.0-based Alienware laptop, providing users with a more immersive gaming experience thanks to Dark Core – a new feature “darkens the interior shade of the laptop to minimize distractions”.

The Alienware m15 R5 Ryzen Edition features a wide set of connectivity options, including 2x USB-A 3.2 Gen1, a USB-C 3.2 Gen1, a USB-C 3.2 Gen2, an HDMI 2.1 port, and an audio-out 3.5mm jack. Additionally, it also supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 through the Killer AX1650 and 2.5Gbit Ethernet connectivity.

Available starting on the 20th of April in the US, the Alienware m15 R5 Ryzen Edition starts at $1793.98 for the base configuration.

KitGuru says: Considering what AMD has achieved in the last 5 years, it makes perfect sense to see high-end laptops sporting AMD hardware once again. Are you in the market for a new gaming laptop? Will you be considering the new Alienware m15 R5 Ryzen Edition?

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
