Intel document seemingly confirms “Alder Lake” processors will use socket LGA 1700

We've already heard rumours about Intel's plans for its upcoming CPUs, including the mention of LGA 1700. Now, according to a leaked Intel document, it appears to be confirmed that the company's 12th Gen Core family, Alder Lake, will require a new LGA 1700 socket.

Things change fast in the tech world. Intel's LGA1200 socket was released in early 2020 and now there's already information about the next socket from the tech giant. This document referring to the upcoming LGA1700 socket was posted on Twitter by momomo_us, a noted leaker who previously leaked a CAD drawing of the LGA1200 socket.

Given Intel's naming convention, LGA 1700 will feature an extra 500 pins compared to LGA 1200, which is a sizable increase considering Intel CPUs have been on LGA 115x since 2015.

Alder Lake looks set to make its debut in 2021, with some CPUs also being released in 2022, which means that Intel's shift over to  LGA 1700 will be spread over a period of time. Even though the release of Alder Lake is still a way off,  there are already leaks suggesting that the CPUs are slated to support DDR5 memory.
