Date for “Reimagined” E3 2021 has been set, IGN will host a ‘Summer of Gaming’

After the cancellation of E3 2020, ESA (Entertainment Software Association) has already set the date for E3 2021, scheduled for June 15-17. Although there are no details regarding E3 2020's “online experience”, IGN has also announced that it will host Summer of Gaming in June 2020.

Last month, ESA announced that the yearly E3 wouldn't happen in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the announcement, ESA also stated that it was searching for alternatives, including an online event that would be held during the date scheduled for E3 2020.

Although there were no details shared by ESA regarding E3 2020's online event, it has already scheduled E3 2021 for June 15 to 17. ESA also stated that E3 2021 event would be a  “reimagined” experience, but no further details were shared.

Fortunately, even if E3 2020 doesn't happen, IGN has announced Summer of Gaming, scheduled for early June of 2020, similar to E3's scheduled date. This event will be composed of “live broadcasts and on-demand programming”, including publisher presentations and developer interviews about the next upcoming games and hardware. IGN has partnered with multiple publishers and studios for this event, including 2K, Square Enix, SEGA, Bandai Namco, Amazon, Google Stadia, Twitter, Devolver Digital, THQ Nordic, and more.

Additionally, other publishers also stated that they will hold their own events, including Xbox and Limited Run Games. According to VGC, there are other publishers like Ubisoft and Nintendo thinking about holding a replacement event for E3 2020. On the other hand, Warner Bros. Games had plans to show a new Batman video game, a new open world Harry Potter title, and a new title developed by Rocksteady Studios, the developer behind Batman's Arkham series.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
