Rumoured V3 DualSense controller may feature a removable battery

Ever since the rise in wireless controllers, we’ve seen the Xbox and PlayStation go two separate ways. While Sony has focused on packing a ton of tech into its controllers, the console maker’s design decisions has meant that the various DualShocks (now DualSense) controllers have featured integrated batteries. According to a new report however, Sony is gearing up to release a V3 version of its PS5 DualSense, with the primary change being a removable battery.

As reported by the publication PPE.pl (who have accurately spoken on various physical media leaks in the past), Sony is set to soon introduce a refreshed version of its PS5 Pro console alongside a new DualSense controller.

As translated from Polish, the publication has claimed that a new PS5 Pro model is set to launch this November. Though “we don't know all the changes the corporation wants to make,” the updated model is said to consume 3% less power – meaning it will likely be a refresh focused on efficiency (as PlayStation has done throughout a majority of its console generations).

By far the most interesting announcement however is said to be for the DualSense. While Sony has already subtly refreshed its PS5 controller in the past, this V3 model is said to include actual significant changes: namely “a removable battery.”

Currently, it is unknown whether Sony will opt to use standard batteries or a more bespoke option (or perhaps both such as is the case with Xbox).

Regardless, while having removable batteries in any form is welcome to see, hopefully it does not compromise on the premium feel of the DualSense.
