Someone has managed to get an original Xbox emulator running on Nintendo Switch

Console modders and tinkerers have been working on finding exploits on the Nintendo Switch since the console first launched. An initial Switch browser flaw granted deeper access to the console immediately after launch and eventually, homebrew software was made possible. Now, we are starting to see some interesting results coming out of that, with one person getting an original Xbox emulator running on the Switch.

Voxel9 recently posted a YouTube video showing off a modded Nintendo Switch with Linux installed on it. From there, they were able to get the XQEMU original Xbox emulator running and loaded up games like Halo: Combat Evolved and Jet Set Radio Future.

Original Xbox emulators have always been tricky to get running smoothly and that is no different here, with frame rates for Halo and Jet Set Radio being very low and footage looking choppy. Still, this is another cool look at what people are able to do with the Switch and I imagine more emulators will start catering to the Switch over time, particularly since Nintendo has opted to not include Virtual Console on the Switch for older games.

KitGuru Says: This has less to do with piracy and more to do with just seeing what the Switch is capable of when given the freedom to install whatever you want. It is a cool area to explore, although I imagine someone at Nintendo is scratching their heads right now trying to figure out a way to shut this down. How many of you own a Nintendo Switch?
