Twitch implements dress code for streamers

Do you like to do your game streaming topless? If so, you may need to find yourself another site to do it on other than Twitch, as the now-Amazon owned property has announced its own dress code. You don't have to wear anything in particular, but you do have to wear something, as Twitch has now banned nudity and sexually suggestive clothing.

“Nerds are sexy, and you're all magnificent, beautiful creatures, but let's try and keep this about the games, shall we?” reads the update to Twitch's rules of conduct on its official site. Indeed most of the time streams are all about the game and the personalities of the people hosting the content already, but it seems Twitch feels that some streams have made it all about the cleavage or the abs and that's not what it wants to promote.

“Wearing no clothing or sexually suggestive clothing – including lingerie, swimsuits, pasties, and undergarments – is prohibited, as well as any full nude torsos, which applies to both male and female broadcasters. You may have a great six-pack, but that's better shared on the beach during a 2-on-2 volleyball game blasting “Playing with the Boys.”

Too hot for Twitch. Too hot for anywhere really.

It then linked to the famous Top Gun volleyball scene, a pretty great example of unnecessary semi-nudity in a movie.

But this isn't an Amazon warehouse we're talking about here. Twitch is sensitive to temperature and understands that in some places around the world, staying cool is important. In the case where you absolutely must wear very little, Twitch suggests you just pull the webcam in so only your face is showing.

KitGuru Says: It's not clear if bare shoulders are ok, but its probably best to err on the safe side and wear some sort of wrap. Maybe a nice cardigan.

  1. Damn, and i was going to stream topless showing off a 10 inch scar 🙁

  2. Only 10 inches? Amateur

  3. That’s pr0n worthy!

  4. Hopefully this will cut down on the amount of female streamers who stream in “suggestive” clothing who are really, really bad at games but still have thousands of virgin viewers/subs. If I wanted to see that I’d go on myfreecams.com

  5. Are you reatrded? Forcing ppl to wear clothes that you thing are okay? Back to stoneage pls.. Those comments like from Domje H are just jealous fuckers who are bad at games neither but want to get more pieces or the twitch charity from donations and subs.. so please if you implenent this you must be crazy…

  6. Bannedboys!

  7. I think somebody needs a girlfriend

  8. Nothing wrong with this. Not like the rules are strict and it’s not necessarily killing the stream service. If I want to go watch some streamed gameplay or maybe some challenges I don’t want to be greeted by a big pair of man boobs thank you very much and Domje also has a point on the other side of genders; far too many times have I seen gamer girls use their bodies as a balance for their poor streaming/gameplay and that’s not what I came for

  9. tbh most (if not all) female streamers are really, really bad at games . Gameplay is maybe 30% of stream anyway .

  10. So its fine to stream games where people are being tortured or torn to pieces but its not ok for someone to wear “revealing” clothes and show off the human body?…. This my dear is why the world is f**ked, people are more embarrassed/offended by nudity than killing!

  11. Go fap somewhere else.

  12. You know what is that game, what is in it, but you dont actually know what is streamer doing (if you arent going just for a fap)

  13. Agree! I hate them but idiot fappers are just.. saying gay to someone who dont watches boobs 24/7

  14. Well, you’re quite ignorant. There’s a very big difference between real life and video games. You seem to be implying that Twitch is ok with violence but not nudity, which is ridiculous. They’re not going to let you kill or maim people in real life while on twitch, now are they?

There are plenty of good reasons to enforce a dress code for streamers. As Twitch themselves said, it should be about the gameplay, not the streamer’s looks.

  15. The fact that they had to point out that people should be wearing clothes while streaming befudles me.

  16. The reason they’re doing it, is because as they said it’s supposed to be about the games. There’s this thing that happens, where streamers deliberately wear revealing clothing to try and get views, and what twitch is saying (rightly in my opinion) is that Twitch isn’t the correct place to do that.

  17. I don’t think anybody who defends this rule change has actually seen a topless stream. I’ve watched two, one for RIFT (Molly) and one for Team Fortress 2 (Seiri). Molly did it because it was really hot out and she had no AC, and the Seiri just liked her own boobs. Neither of the streamers touched, talked about or even seemed to care about their tits. They just played their games and had a good time.

The stream, after they settled down, didn’t much seem to care either. People would join the stream and after the initial “bewbies l0l” would either stop talking about it, leave or get muted/kicked.

While it’s a good show of equality to ban male streamers as well, it’s still a pointless change. If people don’t like topless shows, they shouldn’t watch them. Now it’s harder to find a place to mix harmless nudity and video games.

  18. No, this shit is a complete excuse for parents who can’t take the responsibility to parent their own kids.
It’s not up to Twitch to parent their kids nor is it their job to judge morality.
If someone is blowing someone then by all means ban them but simply wearing a bikini or a guy not wearing a shirt in our own is in no way wrong much less pornographic.
This isn’t about seeing someone in their underwear, it’s about our right to wear publicly legal amounts of clothing. If we wanted to watch people screw then there’s Pornhub or whatever…

Once again, parents need to parent their own kids otherwise they are not fit to be parents.

  19. myfreecams.com is waiting for you Peter

  20. You are so wrong, im many ways. Do you know all the females that plays? Do not generalize based on a few you saw occasionaly.

  21. Dear Ravena, im not saying that all females are bad at games . Im just saying most female STREAMERS are bad . Atleast thats my experience from twitch . To be fair there are plenty of male streamers who are bad gamers too .
I just think female streamers are not famous because of their gaming skills 🙂

  22. And we can see by your display picture that you’re one of the attention whores this change is targeted to stop, be shit elsewhere.

  23. Oh, he got mad. Why this bother you? Did you ever watched or know my channel? Never used it and didnt create it based on that, have a small group of friends that are always there and playing with them. Also have 2 or 3 other friends, who are girl streamers that do it for same reason. As I said, do not generalize based on a few. I do not need to hide myself to troll people on the internet. Be shit elsewhere.

  24. It all depends on the intentions of hers. Of course there’s lot of women doing it only to promote thenselves, or more likely their body. The rule come to aid us, even male and female.

  25. Ignorant really, http://feministing.com/2011/06/30/sex-is-inappropriate-for-minors-but-violence-is-a-ok/ http://culturemonk.com/2013/03/19/nudity-is-bad-violence-is-okay-really/ It is an ongoing thing with the world, I have seen it first hand when a customer came into my shop and asked for GTA5 for her 8 year old child, Which I said are you sure it has lots of killing, violence and racism in it she was totally fine with it until I said also scenes of a sexual nature… To which she replied “No no, no sex.. Killing is fine but no sex” there is no ignorance here, in fact quite the opposite. What are we teaching our children…

  26. Funny how you have that, never heard of it tbh happily married 🙂 so I’m fine thanks.

  27. Aye that’s cool and makes sense, but I would rather see revealing clothes than someone’s head being blown up lol!. Also everyone knows sex sells, until major companies stop doing it with adverts its not going away. Especially as sex sells really well for gamers.

  28. And for all, if you don’t like seeing the half naked person or whatever is “too revealing” Log off? I’m sure no one is forcing people to watch. Tbh I’m not going to lie, I don’t watch much twitch mainly friends on destiny.

  29. What you would rather see isn’t the issue. Video games happen to involve violence, and they said that sexual content in games is just fine. The point is that what Twitch wants is for it to be about the games, not about the streamers being attractive.

If you want to see revealing clothes and don’t want to see violence, why are you using Twitch?

  30. Let me guess, you think you’re a gamer because you play casual shit like league of lesbians and hearthstone? Or callerdoody, or any other casual shitfest. And you’re not even good at games that make it impossible to be bad. Women are terrible at games, this is a fact of life. You’re also an annoyance on the internet now. You want equality until it’s time to clamor for special treatment. I don’t respect a single woman on this planet because of bitches like you. Hit it and quit it, boys. Make these whores have to work for their money for once in a way that doesn’t involve being all “lol im a grill”.

  31. No. Actually, I’m ex Team Fortress 2 competitive player, been part of one of the most important team in the scene of my country. Plus, I was the only woman in the team, also was a lot of other woman in the other team we played against, that surely kick most of little boys asses. Funny, you are all butthurt because of nothing. The guy already told his point and I got it. Sorry for your mother, because aparently I’m a bitch for playing games and you disrespect her for it. Just go troll elsewhere.

  32. No you’re a typical “lol holding a controller such a nerd send me monies” type. Also, tf2 had a competitve scene? I remember vaguely something like that, me and a few quake buddies raped your “best” and then uninstalled hat party online because it’s some easy casual shit. Play quake at the highest level before you talk, then maybe your fake accolades will mean something.

  33. Yup, it has, most of it are stronger at Europe: http://www.vanillatf2.org/vanillatv/. Question, why you being so shitty? Did I ofended you? I have no need to tell my back story, but maybe it make you just stop pretending you know everything about everyone. I started playing with 11 years old, with my brother, quake on lan in our house. Then started with CS 1.5 and 1.6, then go to TF2. Yeah, im old, im almost 30 years old. Never, ever in my life got close to LoL, only for business, because I work close to e-sport scene. But nah, just forget, im just a bitch 🙂
