Google’s self-driving car has had some issues

Google's self-driving car technology is impressive and has been interesting to follow but it has had its fair share of problems according to Google's latest report. Between November 2014 and September 2015, Google's self-driving car experienced a total of 272 technical failures and was almost involved in 13 accidents.

According to the report, those 13 accidents would have occurred had a driver not taken over with manual controls. However, it doesn't specify if those accidents would have been at the fault of the car, or other drivers on the road.

When the CDMV gave Google permission to test drive its self-driving car on public roads, it had the stipulation that every incident that could affect human safety be recorded and reported. The first report from Google came out this month, showing some errors including faults like the car handing control back to the driver unexpectedly.

Other issues included communication breakdowns, a sensor reading problem and there was a time where the steering or breaks acted abnormally. All of these reports are being documented on the California DMV website.

KitGuru Says: Google has admitted to its self-driving car being involved in accidents in the past though it did put the blame on other drivers not paying attention at the time. However, over the last year, it would seem that there have been some general issues with the car itself so Google still has plenty of work left to do.
