AC Ryan PlayOn! HD Mini 2 Network Media Player Review

The PlayOn! HD Mini 2 is supplied in quite a compact cardboard box that reflects the small nature of the product.  It is decorated in a dark blue livery which contains details of the unit's features. We find the player inside sandwiched between two large polystyrene slabs for protection, alongside a smaller box which is filled with all the included accessories.

AC Ryan include pretty much everything we could possibly ask for with the PlayOn! HD Mini 2.  They include an AC adapter, a high-quality braided HDMI cable, a component cable, a remote and a set of batteries for the remote.  AC Ryan also sent us the optional USB wireless-N dongle to test with the player which is sold separately.

The design of the HD Mini 2 doesn't differ greatly in terms of aesthetics from any of the other products in AC Ryan's PlayOn! range.  It's finished in gloss black which looks great and should fit in well with the other devices below your TV.  This finish is only disrupted by an illuminated AC Ryan logo and power button on the front. As the name suggests, this player is very compact and should be easy to squeeze in under your TV.

Around the back of the unit we find every connection we would need.  On the far left we find the AC-in jack, followed by the six component video connections.  The HDMI 1.3a port is located in the centre with the RJ-45 Ethernet jack and two USB2.0 ports to the right.  On the far right we find the optical audio connection.

There isn't actually any fans inside the PlayOn! HD Mini 2 as it is passively cooled.  Therefore it is totally silent during use, making it perfect for those with sensitive ears.
