Overclockers RENDA PW-E7F Workstation Review

SPECviewperf 12, released by SPEC's Graphics Performance Characterization group (SPECgpc) on December 18, 2013, is an all-new version of the worldwide standard for measuring graphics performance based on professional applications. SPECgpc members at the time of release include AMD, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, Intel, Lenovo, NEC and NVIDIA.

SPECviewperf 12 measures the 3D graphics performance of systems running under the OpenGL and Direct X application programming interfaces. The benchmark’s test files, called viewsets, represent graphics content and behavior from actual applications.

The SPECviewperf tests show a real range of results, although the picture for the RENDA's AMD FirePro W8100 is generally quite positive. The SolidWorks sw-03 viewset gives the PC Specialist and its Quadro K4200 the lead, whilst the Siemens NX snx-02 reverses the situation. It's almost neck-and-neck with showcase-01, but the extra cores in Amari's Magnetar give it the edge with medical-01.

The excellent result in maya-04 is significant, as Autodesk Maya is a popular application for 3D content creation and the RENDA clearly excels when modelling with this software. The extra graphics frame buffer give the RENDA a major advantage with the grueling energy-01, although the PC Specialist's K4200 has the edge again with creo-01 and catia-04.

Overall, the RENDA PW-E7F may not be top of every SPECviewperf benchmark test, but it is ahead in some, and not enormously behind elsewhere. So this will be a very capable modelling workstation whatever application you intend to use, but particularly Autodesk Maya.
