Stellar Data Recovery Technician (2023) Review

Stellar has been in the data care business for the past 30 years and offers a huge range of software utilities to protect and recover all sorts of data for both consumers and enterprise market segments.  They offer suites of tools like the Stellar Data Recovery series or single packages such as Photo Recovery, Repair For Video, iPhone Data Recovery and Repair for Exchange.

Attempting to recover missing data may seem a bit daunting to some and it certainly helps when the software you are using is more of an aid than a hindrance, for what is already a complex job. Stellar Data Recovery Technician is a feature-rich data recovery tool that you might think would be a bit challenging to use but this is not the case. To their credit Stellar has, by the use of a series of icons and tick boxes made navigating through the basic job of data retrieval a lot less painful than it might otherwise be. The preview window is useful to confirm that the files found are the ones wanted. There's also a very good online user manual for the software.

Not only does the Data Recovery Technician deal deal with data recovery from standard disc setups, but it also brings RAID array support allowing many data recovery options from failed or corrupted RAID arrays. At the time of writing though it only supports RAID 0, 5, 6 and nested RAID 10, 50 and 60 arrays.

As well as the data recovery aspect, Data Recovery Technician also supports disc imaging with the option of imaging the whole drive or a selected region and It also has its own useful built-in disk monitoring utility.

When dealing with something as sensitive as data recovery it's good to know that there is a decent level of support should things go awry. Stellar Data Recovery offers live chat, phone and online ticket support. You also get access to a comprehensive knowledge base and a decent-sized FAQ section. If all else fails and you can't get your data back then there is the option to contact Stellar Data Recovery Lab Services. Stellar's lab technicians try to troubleshoot the problem and recover your data from the storage medium at one of their Stellar Data Recovery Labs. They offer free quotations and offer a no-cure-no-pay policy.

While the Quick Scan option is indeed quick, the Deep Scan does take some time to complete. The actual data recovery process takes a while as well but in this case, it's better to be safe than sorry. The recovery performance can be improved if you know what file types you are looking for as you can specify exactly what file extensions you are trying to recover in the Advanced Options.

Although the specs for the software mention Intel Pentium processors as a system requirement, we used the software on an AMD-based rig without any problem.  Each version of the Data Recovery suite comes with a free download option so you can evaluate it to see if it's suitable for your needs before purchasing it.

Pricing for Stellar's Data Recovery Technician Edition is currently £169 for a 1-year license (on sale from £249) and £339 for a lifetime license (on sale from £509), both for a single system. Bulk buying options for multiple devices are available for 5,10, 25, 50, 100 and 200 devices.
