PlayStation Plus prices are going up from tomorrow for new subscribers

While Microsoft has been rather reactive when it comes to altering its Xbox Game Pass prices, Sony’s PlayStation Plus has remained relatively static in recent years. Finally however, Sony has made the unfortunate announcement that they will be raising the price for PS Plus starting from tomorrow – albeit only for new subscribers.

Making the surprise announcement on Twitter, the official PlayStation page wrote the following: “Starting May 20, PlayStation Plus prices for new customers will increase in select regions. Due to ongoing market conditions, prices will start at $10.99 USD / €9.99 EUR / £7.99 GBP [previously £6.99] for 1-month subscriptions and $27.99 USD / €27.99 EUR / £21.99 GBP [was £19.99] for 3-month subscriptions.”

While disappointing to see, Sony made sure to note that this increase does not apply to current subscribers. That said, if you do let your PS Plus subscription lapse, then you will be put on the higher pricing tier should you wish to return.

Additionally, Sony’s most cost-effective tier – their 12 month subscription – appears to be unaltered, meaning you should still be able to subscribe to the service for £59.99 (or roughly £5 a month).

Regardless, it is disappointing to see PlayStation Plus go up in price, especially as the service itself does not appear to be changing in any material way for the better.
