As part of a recent system firmware update, Sony introduced a new widget to its Welcome Hub, allowing users to view the top 10 most-played PlayStation 5 games in their region – the first time in which the console maker has offered such transparency. Initially limited to regions such as the US, a new PS5 update has brought the feature to additional regions.
Update ‘26.06-14.00.00’ for the PlayStation 5 has now officially gone live, bringing a small number of new features while expanding on previous additions. In terms of new functionality, the update now makes the ‘Enhanced PSSR Image Quality’ toggle on PS5 Pro enabled by default, while also introducing an optional ‘speaker indicator’ for those using voice chat.
Perhaps the most interesting feature however is the expansion of their ‘Community Activity widget’, allowing users in regions outside of the US to now see which games are trending; as well as an overall ‘top 10 most-played’ list for the week.
Curiously, unlike its initial implementation, the widget no longer includes the total number of players, instead simply offering a linear numbered list. Even without concrete player data however, the new widget is an interesting addition.
As of right now, the top 10 list for the UK appears as follows:
- Fortnite
- Minecraft
- GTA V (PS5 Version)
- Rainbow Six: Siege
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Marvel Rivals
- SKATE.
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
- Marvel’s Wolverine
- Battlefield 6
While far from the most comprehensive way to observe player trends across PS5, this new Welcome Hub widget is a ‘welcome’ addition. It will be interesting to see if and how the feature is tweaked over the coming months / years.
