Sony unveils Limited Edition Wolverine-themed PlayStation 5 consoles

While the practice has fallen somewhat out of favour in recent years, Sony does still occasionally produce limited edition PlayStation 5 consoles in alignment with its major AAA releases. Ahead of the official arrival of Marvel’s Wolverine in September, Sony has unveiled a suite of slick limited edition PS5 consoles and controllers.

Taking to the PlayStation Blog to make the announcement, Sony officially unveiled its Limited Edition Wolverine ‘PS5 Console bundle and accessories’. Launching on the 15th of September and available to pre-order from the 19th of August, Sony is offering 3 versions of the ‘console':

• Black and Yellow Digital PS5 (£569.99)
• Black and Yellow PS5 Pro face plates (£64.99)
• Black and White PS5 Pro face plates (£64.99)

Unlike the recently-leaked Zelda-themed Switch 2 console, this Wolverine PS5 keeps things rather minimal, in many ways matching the aesthetics of the game’s box art itself.

Speaking on the mentality behind this design, graphic artist Jock claimed to have “wanted to show Wolverine at his fiercest for Marvel’s Wolverine Limited Edition PS5 Console bundle and accessories,” adding that “I still draw all my artwork traditionally, so the opportunity to marry cutting-edge hardware with the energy and looseness of hand-drawn ink is incredibly exciting. I’m stunned by how well the console and accessories captured the raw energy of the drawing, bringing Wolverine to life in a completely unique way.”

Given just how costly console hardware is nowadays, such limited edition consoles are unfortunately far less feasible – especially for those who already own a standard version of the PS5. At the very least, it is welcome to see that the DualSense controller and face plates will also be available for purchase separately (at £74.99 and £64.99 respectively).
