New report claims Nvidia RTX 50 GPUs will be based on TSMC 3nm node

At launch, the RTX 40 series lacked compatibility with important technologies such as DisplayPort 2.1. On the other hand, AMD has already incorporated these standards into their RX 7000 series GPUs, giving the green team a bit of a bad image. With Nvidia's next generation gaming GPUs, however, Nvidia will try to fix its mistake, as RTX 50 series cards will reportedly feature the latest DisplayPort standard.

According to kopite7kimi, the next series of Nvidia GPUs will include DisplayPort 2.1 compatibility at launch. However, it's still unclear which version of the standard the RTX 50 series will support. For example, while the gaming RX 7000 series has a maximum bandwidth of 54 Gbit/s with DP 2.1 UHBR13.5, the workstation W7000 versions offer 80 Gbit/s of bandwidth with UHBR20 support.

The same leaker also revealed that the upcoming Blackwell architecture GPUs will reportedly use TSMC's 3nm process node. Considering TSMC has various N3 nodes (N3/N3E/N3P/N3X) and the possibility of making a custom one for Nvidia, it remains to be seen which will be used.

Blackwell GPUs have no specific release date, but Nvidia's latest roadmap points to sometime between late 2024 and early 2025.
