Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember gets official release date alongside limited-time demo

Ever since the launch of the first Nioh game, Team Ninja have been on a roll, consistently releasing new quality entries across multiple different franchises on an almost annual basis. Despite only launching Nioh 3 earlier this year, the studio is already gearing up for its next big game – with Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember officially set to release in March of 2027.

Taking to the PlayStation Blog to make their announcement, the devs at Team Ninja / publisher Koei Tecmo confirmed that Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember will be arriving in just a few months' time; officially launching on the 4th of March 2027.

This comes as quite the surprise for a multitude of reasons: not only due to the fact that the game was just announced back in June, but also because Team Ninja’s most recent title – Nioh 3 – will be merely 13 months old by the time Wo Long 2 arrives.

In a practice which has become common for Team Ninja, those wanting to try the game out early can do so right now, with a limited-time Alpha Demo currently live across all applicable platforms.

Available until the 30th of September, players can check out “part of the Changban stage, utilizing Chinese martial arts that blend offense and defense, traversing the Three Kingdoms battlefield where demons run rampant, and engaging in combat with legendary heroes from history”. Those who do download and complete the demo before its removal will also be gifted the ‘Fledgling Phoenix Helmet’ once the full game launches.

Released back in 2023, the first Wo Long was met with solid reviews overall owing to its fun and engaging gameplay – mired somewhat by its relative lack of innovation and basic level design.

Since then however, Team Ninja have released Ninja Gaiden 4 and Nioh 3, continuing to hone their craft. With Wo Long 2 set to further refine the series’ gameplay while vastly expanding its explorable world, Wings of Ember could very well be the studio’s best game in years. We [WO]n't have to wait [LONG 2] find out.
