ASUS unleashes first ROG Ryzen powered gaming laptop

After some initial teasing in May and pre-orders going live in June, ASUS has officially launched its ROG Strix GL702ZC gaming laptop series. This one is of particular interest, as it is the first gaming laptop in a good while to feature all AMD hardware, as well as the first to feature a Ryzen 7 processor.

This laptop first appeared several months ago. It features the traditional ROG gaming laptop design, with a 17.3-inch full HD display, a Ryzen 7 1700 CPU and an AMD RX 580 4GB graphics chip. The display also supports FreeSync, so you should get a smooth, tear-free gaming experience.

The Ryzen 7 1700 or Ryzen 5 1600 processor that comes in one of these laptops is housed on a B350 chipset motherboard. The top of the range model can be configured with up to 32GB of DDR4 memory and a 120Hz IPS Freesync display.

All versions of this laptop come with the Radeon RX 580 with 4GB of VRAM. It also comes with plenty of storage, you'll get a 1TB HDD as standard, but you can also get models with a 128GB, 256GB or a 512GB M.2 SSD on board.

The highest specification that will be available in the UK will have a 60Hz panel, 256GB SSD and 16GB of main memory. You can find both the Ryzen 5 version and the Ryzen 7 version of this laptop on OverclockersUK currently for £1,399.99 and £1,549.99 respectively.

KitGuru Says: The first Ryzen powered gaming laptop is here, and with AMD's new APUs on the way in early 2018, we can expect to see plenty more AMD options in the laptop space. What do you guys think of Asus's first ROG Ryzen laptop?
