PS5 event rumoured for June with a follow-up State of Play in August

As we inch closer and closer to the inevitable release of the PlayStation 5, fans have started to wonder when Sony may be planning to have its big next-gen blowout event. Of course, the current global climate has no doubt affected the console manufacturer’s plans. That being said, recent rumours are now claiming that PlayStation will have its big PS5 event in June, with a State of Play set to follow it up in early August.

As reported by Gematsu, the PS5 event was originally set for the 4th of June, though plans may have since changed. Due to unspecified reasons, the event may see a slight delay, though rumours claim that the next-gen reveal event will still be set sometime in “early June.”

Fans who have been eagerly waiting to see what the console looks like may not have to wait long. Reports claim that “Sony Interactive Entertainment will have shown off the console in detail by the time the event occurs”. Furthermore, the June event is said to include a “significant” number of next-gen titles.

Following its June event, PlayStation will reportedly be hosting a State of Play. This digital Nintendo Direct-style presentation is said to be taking place in early August, and will “highlight a combination of PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 titles”.

While these two events are highlighted, Sony will also reportedly utilise its PlayStation Blog and other social channels for various announcements across the months as well. We have already seen this with the console’s new controller – which was revealed through the PlayStation Blog.

Though these uncertain times have undoubtedly affected many of Sony’s plans, it’s looking as though the official reveal of the PlayStation 5 is truly just around the corner.
