Operating system fragmentation has always been an issue for Windows, and while the situation had been mostly resolved thanks to Windows 10 (until Windows 11 was introduced), many users still run much older versions of Microsoft’s OS, including Windows 8 and even Windows 7. Those wanting to play games via Steam however will soon need to upgrade as come the end of the year support for older versions of Windows is officially ceasing.

At GDC last week, AMD shared some more official details about FSR 3, the next generation of its upscaling technology. FSR 3 is still in early development, but AMD has some lofty goals for the new version, including a 2x frame rate improvement over FSR 2. 

While AMD hasn't announced its next-gen Ryzen processor plans yet, it would seem that partners are already in the know. In a recent press release, Gigabyte reportedly confirmed that the "next generation" of Ryzen desktop processors will launch later this year. 

Following Fortnite’s upgrade from Unreal Engine 4 to the latest and greatest UE5, we have seen much wider adoption for the new engine, with the likes of Rocket League and others set to make the transition. One other game now confirmed to be getting an Unreal Engine 5 upgrade is the first-person open world factory building title Satisfactory.

A couple of years ago, Amazon Games caught a lot of flack for the New World beta, which seemingly had a bug that could kill certain graphics cards. Now, Blizzard might be facing a similar problem with the Diablo 4 beta. 

For all of its faults, Cyberpunk 2077 is a gorgeous looking game – especially when running on a high-end machine with all of its many ray-tracing features enabled. That said, the team at CD Projekt Red have teased that they plan to bring full path-tracing to the game via an ‘RT Overdrive Mode’. During GDC 2023, it was announced that path-tracing will be arriving next month as part of Cyberpunk 2077’s 1.62 update.

After weeks of leaks, rumours and some direct teasing from Valve developers, Counter Strike 2 has been officially announced. The game won't be launching quite as soon as we expected, but it is set to release this summer. 

Ever since the game was first announced back in 2021, fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Aside from the initial reveal trailer, nothing has been shown, with the studio later confirming that the game is planned for release sometime this ‘Fall’. Thanks to the voice actor for Venom, we now have a much more concrete window – including when we can expect to hear more official news.

Raja Koduri departed AMD and began working at Intel five years ago, marking the blue team's journey towards releasing discrete graphics products. The Intel Xe GPU architecture is now well established and the groundwork has been laid for future generations of graphics cards. Now, Koduri is departing Intel to start his own company. 

Gigabyte may have confirmed the VRAM capacity for the RTX 4070 and 4060 GPUs. In the patch notes of the latest version of Gigabyte Control Center, the GPU manufacturer introduced support for two unreleased graphics cards: the RTX 4070 Aero OC and the RTX 4060 Gaming OC.

Asus and Noctua teamed up a couple of years ago, launching Noctua-cooled versions of the RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 graphics cards. Now, both companies are teaming up once again, this time for the Asus RTX 4080 Noctua Edition.

GDC is set to kick off next week but Nvidia is making a few of its gaming-related announcements early. For starters, DLSS is coming to more games, DLSS 3 is getting Unreal Engine 5.2 integration and the next graphics card game bundle is now official.

Recently, it was claimed that the RTX 4070 would launch in mid-April. Now, another report seems to back this up, claiming that Nvidia will announce the new GPU on the 12th of April, followed by reviews and availability on the 13th. 

It has been reported that we'll see a new version of the PS5 console with a detachable disc drive later this year, but it seems something even bigger could be just around the corner. While the rumoured PS5 redesign won't include any hardware upgrades, it has now been claimed that a PS5 Pro is on the way in 2024.

While Microsoft has signed a legal agreement with Nintendo to bring Call of Duty games to Nintendo consoles if the Activision Blizzard acquisition goes through, there has been doubt as to whether or not we'd see Call of Duty on the Switch. As it turns out, Microsoft is pretty confident that it could get a native version of the game working, even on the Switch's ageing hardware.

We have long known that Grand Theft Auto 6 is in development and while Rockstar Games themselves have yet to officially announce the game, last year saw a huge data breach leak a bunch of in-development GTA 6 footage. With GTA V nearing its 10th anniversary, many fans have been eagerly awaiting the announcement and release of the game’s sequel. According to one insider however, we may be waiting for almost 2 more years.

Following on from a leak earlier today, AMD has now officially announced its latest GPU game bundle. Starting today and running through to the 15th of April, anyone who purchases select Radeon RX 7000 series or RX 6000 series graphics cards will get a free copy of The Last of Us Part 1. 

AMD already has its next game bundle lined up for potential Radeon graphics card buyers. According to a recently spotted retail page, AMD will soon be offering free copies of The Last of Us Part 1 with its current and previous-gen graphics cards. 

Given that the vast majority of PC gamers use Steam, Valve's Steam Hardware Survey usually offers a decent look at PC hardware trends and adoption. The February 2023 Steam Hardware Survey results have now been shared and it looks like new-gen GPUs from Nvidia are finally starting to be more widely used, although AMD's RX 7900 series has yet to appear on the list. 

While Destiny managed to find success and usher in the age of 'live service' games, many other publishers have tried and failed to replicate that formula. While it seemed that Marvel's Avengers might have had a good shot, content exclusivity controversies, a lacking end-game and an empty post-launch roadmap meant that the game never found its feet. Now, I fear that Rocksteady is heading in the same direction with Suicide Squad.

As excited as many of us were to see Final Fantasy 16 announced, the game being exclusive to PlayStation 5 withered that excitement for many. Fortunately, the game has been confirmed for PC, but it will be arriving significantly later than the console version...

In recent years, Valve has essentially stopped trying to keep Steam Sale details secret and the company is much more open about its schedule. On the Steam developer site, Valve has now revealed the schedule for all upcoming sales and 'Steam Fests' for 2023. 

While Call of Duty has been a big part of the discussion around Microsoft's planned acquisition of Activision Blizzard, regulators have also expressed concern regarding the cloud market. To help with that, Microsoft has now entered an agreement with Nvidia to bring all of its Xbox PC games to GeForce Now.
