Akasa Venom Cooler Review

The base design of the Akasa Venom follows that of most tower coolers and bears a striking resemblance to the Akasa Nero S cooler, a product the company released several months ago. The Nero S was a very good cooler but not nearly as fancy as the Venom.

This cooler is designed to hold one or two 120mm cooling fans. One yellow blade 120mm fan is supplied with the cooler and features curved “S-Flow” blades which are supposed to enhance airflow by up to 30%. Akasa supplies only one of the two fans this cooler may hold, however since the Venom supports standard 120mm fans you may use any 120mm computer fan available as the secondary fan and/or replace the main fan. The yellow S-Flow fan which Akasa supplies with the cooler is a PWM controlled fan and has a maximum rotational speed of 1900RPM but can also rotate down to 600RPM.

Much many coolers sharing the same design, the Venom has a large number of chrome plated aluminum fins in order to dissipate the heat generated by the CPU. The fins are cut in a U shape which reduces the airflow resistance and therefore the generated noise. Much like the older Nero S cooler, Akasa designed the Venom with four nickel plated heatpipes which come in direct contact with the CPU, absorbing and transferring the generated heat directly to the aluminium fins.

Even though they are nickel plated, the heatpipes are made of copper and the portion which comes into direct contact with the CPU appears very well machined to a smooth finish. The rest of the cooler’s base is made out of aluminium and serves no other purpose than ensuring the mechanical cohesion of the product and providing space for the mounting brackets to be installed.
