Akasa Venom Cooler Review

The installation of the Akasa Venom cooler is straightforward, however it requires the motherboard to be removed from the case if the latter does not have the motherboard tray behind the CPU area open. If the motherboard tray allows it, installing the cooler while the motherboard is still inside the case should not prove to be a problem.

To begin with, the users have to install the necessary retention bracket/backplate set which is right for their system. There are two sets, one for AMD socket AM3/AM2 processors and one for Intel socket 775/1156/1366 processors. The retention bracket has to be secured on the cooler itself by using the provided screws, while the backplate is simply inserted from the rear side of the motherboard. AMD users will have to remove the reference plastic retention bracket from their motherboards before they proceed with the installation of this cooler.

After placing a small amount of thermal paste on the CPU and making sure that the backplate is secure behind your motherboard, the cooler has to be placed on the CPU with the long backplate screws going through the holes of the retention bracket on the cooler.

Afterwards the cooler can be secured into place with the four provided thumbscrews. You may use a screwdriver if you wish but we did not feel that to be necessary. After the cooler is secured on the motherboard, the yellow-bladed cooling fan has to be installed.

By inserting the four rubber studs on the fan mounting holes, the fan can be easily secured on the cooler by placing the rubber stud ends inside the cooler fin cuts. It may be a little difficult to install and remove the fans while the cooler is installed inside the case, however it is a secure method and will reduce the vibrations coming from the spinning fan.
