Graphics cards prices may increase once again in February

Getting the latest graphics card from Nvidia and AMD at MSRP might get more difficult soon. According to a new rumour, the pricing of GDDR5 and GDDR6 memory will increase, affecting the retail price of most graphics cards starting next month.

New generation graphics cards have faced tough times since launch. Not only is the cost of components and import tariffs causing prices to rise, but scalpers and a renewed interest in cryptocurrency mining have made the supply and demand issue for gaming graphics cards worse.

With some graphics cards being sold around 25% over MSRP, it seems that things may get even worse. As per mydrivers report, the price of GDDR5 and GDDR6 memory is also set to increase. This is said to impact GPU pricing from mid-February onwards, when manufacturing kicks off again following the Chinese New Year.

Exactly how much impact this will have is unknown currently, but it will affect the RTX 30 and RX 6000 series graphics cards. The cost of laptop GPUs for OEMs may also increase due to this.
