CES 2024: Nvidia unveils RTX 40 Super specs, pricing and release dates

At CES today, Nvidia is officially launching three new graphics cards – the RTX 4080 Super, RTX 4070 Ti Super and RTX 4070 Super. We can now put to rest a long running stream of rumours and leaks with official details on specs and pricing. New hardware isn't the only thing Nvidia has on the way though, as the company is also launching new software features too.

We'll start off on the software front. At Computex last year, Nvidia officially announced ACE, its new set of tools to create realistic digital avatars. Leveraging AI tools, developers can use ACE features like Audio2Face and Riva to automatically detect speech and create facial expressions. The goal here is to allow game makers to create life-like NPCs, with high-fidelity and natural animations. Tools like Convai can also allow NPCs to converse amongst themselves and interact with objects, which could help create more realistic worlds.

A number of developers are already using ACE, including Inworld, NetEase, Tencent, Ubisoft and miHoYo. Nvidia ACE is now widely available for use, so we should see more game developers exploring the technology this year.

Moving on to hardware, Nvidia is officially launching the RTX 40 Super series graphics cards. The RTX 4080 Super is said to be 1.4X faster than the RTX 3080 Ti without DLSS Frame Generation. Activating DLSS 3 Frame Gen can boost it up to being 2X more powerful than the RTX 3080 Ti. The RTX 4070 Ti Super is described as the “ideal GPU” for running games at maximum settings at 1440p and 4K. The RTX 4070 Super gets the biggest upgrade here over its original counterpart, with 20% more cores, making it faster than an RTX 3090 while using up less power.

You can see the specs in the table below:

GPU CUDA Cores Memory Base/Boost speeds TGP
RTX 4080 Super 10240 16GB GDDR6X 2295MHz / 2550MHz 320W
RTX 4080 9728 16GB GDDR6X 2205MHz / 2505MHz 320W
RTX 4070 Ti Super 8448 16GB GDDR6X 2340MHz / 2610MHz 285W
RTX 4070 Ti 7680 12GB GDDR6X 2310MHz / 2610MHz 285W
RTX 4070 Super 7168 12GB GDDR6X 1980MHz / 2475MHz 220W
RTX 4070 5888 12GB GDDR6X 1920MHz / 2475MHz 200W

The biggest surprise here is the new pricing. While the RTX 4080 originally launched at $1199, the RTX 4080 Super is launching at $999 instead. The RTX 4070 Ti Super and RTX 4070 Super will match the MSRPs of the previous models, coming in at $799 and $599 respectively. The vanilla RTX 4070 meanwhile sees an official price cut to $549, though do note the original 4070 Ti and 4080 will be discontinued in favour of the new Super models.

For those in the UK, Nvidia has confirmed the 4070 Super MSRP at £579, the 4070 Ti Super is £769 and the 4080 Super is £959.

The RTX 4070 Super will be available starting on the 17th of January. The RTX 4070 Ti Super will hit the market on the 24th of January and the RTX 4080 Super will be available starting on the 31st of January.
