HIS HD6870 ICEQX Turbo Graphics Card Review

Assassin’s Creed II is a historical third person action-adventure video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft for Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, Onlive and PlayStation 3.

The game is set in the 21st century, with player-controlled protagonist Desmond Miles escaping from Abstergo Industries with an employee, Lucy Stillman, after being forced to relive the genetic memories of ancestral assassin Altaïr ibn La-Ahad through a machine known as the “Animus”. After escaping from Abstergo, Desmond enters a device which is more advanced than the original Animus, the Animus 2.0, and relives the genetic memories of ancestral nobleman Ezio Auditore da Firenze, who lived during the Renaissance period of the late 15th century in Italy. The player controls Ezio, who becomes an Assassin after his father and brothers are murdered by a traitor to the Auditore family. While controlling Ezio, the player can explore game renditions of Italian cities, regions and landmarks in open world gameplay.

The game was customised to high settings, AA and AF were disabled.

No problems at these settings, averaging just under 50 fps throughout our gameplay section. Minimum frame rates never drop into the danger zone either which is impressive.

  1. WOw that cooler melts my eye balls.

Thank god you dont have to look at it all the time once its installed !

  2. Hey, anyway we can petition them to make the cooler a different colour? that really is dire looking.

but hey it works I ‘pose ! nice one.

  3. Why have they a y shaped plate over the memory? whats that about?

  4. Bit of a contradiction that card. one of the best AMD 6870s and easily the ugliest.

Those temperatures are great, especially for the new version of Furmark, which melts some cards. I am not sure I value furmark anymoer for temps, but I like the fact you include gaming results.

  5. @ Dave. the metal plate is obviously for cooling, there are probably thermal pads under it. and then the fan above keeps it cooler and it takes the heat from teh chips.

  6. Nice card design and great performance. as the review says though the 560 is a tough card to beat at this price point.

  7. Weird choice of colours for the cooler design. its very bright. looks like cheap plastic.

  8. I still have concerns about HIS warranty in UK, ive read horror stories.

  9. Wow, 975mhz core, thats insane for an out of the box setting. They must have a good batch for this release.

  10. Very good card from HIS. Its a make I never look at when buying a card, but this one looks like one of the best.

  11. the color isn’t for everyone, apparently. It’s a good match though for Gigabyte Mobo’s. Not that anyone should be buying a VC because of the color. Excluding case modders, possibly.

  12. Where can I buy this exact card? I recently read a review in PC Gamer magazine noting it at £149, but can’t find this model online anywhere!
