Fall Guys surpasses 20 million players 2 days after free-to-play launch

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout has had an interesting trajectory so far. Initially launched as a premium title (though given away for free on PlayStation Plus), Fall Guys saw rapid success as the latest Battle Royale-inspired multiplayer title. Relaunching as a free-to-play game seems to be paying off however, as more than 20 million players flocked to the now free-to-play title in just 48 hours.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Fall Guys page said “MASSIVE THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE STUMBLED We reached an incredible 20 million players in the first 48 hours of Free For All!”

Additionally, Fall Guys is currently rated as the 3rd most played game on Xbox, only behind the Juggernauts that are Fortnite and Call of Duty Warzone. Of course, how Microsoft calculates these rankings is unknown, but what is clear is that Fall Guys has managed to make lightning strike twice.

As mentioned, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout first launched on the PlayStation 4 and PC on the 4th of August 2020 and was given away for free as part of PlayStation Plus that month. The game quickly rose in ranks to become the most downloaded PlayStation Plus game of all time while selling over 10 million copies on PC alone. Epic Games later announced in 2021 that they would be acquiring Mediatonic, the studio behind Fall Guys.

Finally, after multiple seasons of success, Fall Guys has been released on all modern platforms (Switch, PS4/5, Xbox One/Series, PC) as a free-to-play title to explosive success. It will be interesting to see where Fall Guys will be one month from now, as well as one year from now.
