Apple Arcade reportedly saw just 2 million subscribers in its first year

All the way back in 2019, Apple launched its Arcade subscription service – letting iOS/Mac users access over 100 games ranging from ad-free classics to Apple Arcade exclusives. Despite continued support, the service has reportedly seen quite little in the way of adoption with just 2 million users in its first year.

In a report titled ‘Apple Streaming Losses Top $1 Billion a Year’ (paywalled), publication The Information spoke on a range of the iPhone maker’s current services from TV+ to Apple News+ and more.

In discussing Apple Arcade specifically, The Information revealed that the company saw just 2 million users join Apple Arcade in its first year of operation – 25% of which were using a free trial.

Of course, as mentioned, the service has existed since 2019 and so has had many years since to attract further customers, especially with new exclusives.

Apple Arcade Million

Even so, 2 million in one year seems like a low figure for a company whose user base exceeds 2 billion across its products (a majority of which support Apple Arcade).

All that being said, Apple has near-infinite money to burn on whatever project they desire, and so it is at least nice to see the company continue to invest in new games from iconic franchises.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
