New Windows 11 Insider preview improves Colour Management for OLED and HDR

Microsoft is planning to update the Windows colour management settings. Already available on the latest Insider preview build, the update brings improved profile management and a Windows 11-like UI. Moreover, it also added “Color management” to the Windows 11 Settings Display page.

Since the launch of Windows 11, Microsoft has been working hard to modernise the operating system's features, moving away from the old-fashioned appearance of Windows XP, particularly in graphics and display settings. The latest Canary and Dev release has introduced a new and simplified colour management interface, with the system now able to select the appropriate colour profile for specific applications automatically. Users can easily apply profiles to each connected monitor, making it easier to manage colour settings.

This upgrade is particularly interesting for professionals who require precise colour reproduction in their work. It's worth noting that the new colour management system also includes a colour calibration option, which will hopefully work better than Windows' current calibration tools.

The new features are currently only for users with access to the Dev or Canary channels (Build 26052). However, it's important to note that these builds are not intended for daily use, as they may contain patches that could result in unexpected behaviour. The new colour management page can be found under Settings > System > Display > Colour Management.
