It's been fascinating to analyse the MSI MPG 322UR X24 over the last week or so, given it's a 32in 4K/240Hz QD-OLED – the same core spec as the MSI MPG 321URX that we were so impressed with over two years ago. So how far has the technology come since then?
Well, for one, Samsung Display has made the move to Penta Tandem technology, and that has unlocked some decent panel improvements when it comes to brightness. A full screen white can now hit about 300 nits in SDR – about 15% brighter than what the 321URX is capable of – while it also enables True Black 500 certification for HDR, up from True Black 400.
This new panel comes with what Samsung calls its QuantumBlack coating, though MSI's marketing name for this is DarkArmor Film. This makes a noticeable difference to perceived black depth in bright conditions compared to previous QD-OLED panels, where blacks can often look more grey depending on the ambient lighting. However, black levels are still raised when compared against ASUS' TrueBlack Glossy coating on the XG27AQWMG, so it's not perfect – but it is still a big improvement relative to previous QD-OLED panels, and will make the issue much less of a concern for most people.
Credit to MSI as well, as they absolutely nailed the factory calibration with the 322UR X24. Out of the box colour accuracy and gamma tracking are close to perfect, while the built-in sRGB mode is one of the best I have ever used, with an average colour accuracy DeltaE 2000 of below 1. Other aspects of the monitor are suitably modern too, including 2x HDMI 2.1 and 1x DisplayPort 2.1 ports, alongside 98W USB-C charging and a built-in motion sensor which can intelligently turn the screen on and off if it detects your presence.
My only real criticism here is that MSI hasn't updated the core design of the monitor, and I would like to see more metal used across the chassis – as we saw with the MPG 341CQR X36 that adopted a metal foot back in January.
However, when we consider that the 322UR X24 is retailing for £849 – or even less than that due to the current sale – it's easy to forgive that point. For reference, when the 321URX first launched in early 2024, it was on sale for £1300 – so two years later, we are getting a decently-improved product at a price that's £450 lower. If only the rest of the PC space was following the same trend!
The MSI MPG 322UR X24 has an £849 MSRP, but it is currently listed for £799 on both OCUK and Scan.
