GDDR7 roadmap may include 4GB and 6GB chips within two years

New GDDR7 memory packages could reach 32Gb and 48Gb densities between 2027 and 2028, according to a report from Golden Pig. These capacities would translate to 4GB and 6GB per chip, offering a notable increase over today’s 16Gb (2GB) and 24Gb (3GB) options.

As spotted by VideoCardz Golden Pig’s post on Weibo suggests that memory vendors are exploring higher‑density GDDR7 packages for future graphics hardware. Larger single‑chip capacities would allow board partners to build higher‑VRAM configurations without widening memory buses or increasing the number of packages on the PCB. In some designs, this could also enable single‑sided memory layouts.

As always, total VRAM depends on memory‑controller width, available channels and overall cost. High‑density DRAM typically carries a price premium, and manufacturers have not confirmed any roadmap details yet. Specifications such as operating speeds, process nodes and expected pricing remain unknown.
