Gigabyte B560 Aorus motherboards run the Core i9-11900K at 5.1GHz on all cores

The latest BIOS update for Gigabyte's B560 Aorus motherboards has shipped and there is good news for prospective 11th Gen Core i9 buyers. Gigabyte Aorus B560 motherboards will support 5.1GHz all-core boost on the Core i9-11900K and KF, as well as memory speeds up to 5300MHz.

Typically, Intel B-series motherboards aren't bought for overclocking. However, Gigabyte is trying to change that perception by bumping up the overclocking capabilities of B560 Aorus motherboards. With the latest BIOS, higher speeds can be achieved across the board, with up to 5300MHz achievable on memory via manual overclocking, 4800MHz memory speeds with XMP and 5.1GHz all-core boost speeds on Intel's newly launched 11th Gen Core i9 processors.

Coinciding with this announcement, Gigabyte shared a screenshot of an Intel Core i9-11900K overclocked to 5.1GHz on all cores on the Aorus Elite B560 motherboard. The CPU was then benchmarked using Cinebench R23, scoring 16,049 points – similar results to a stock Ryzen Threadripper 1950X.

The following list includes all Gigabyte B560 Aorus motherboards and respective BIOS supporting enhanced overclocking:

  • Gigabyte B560 Aorus Pro AX – F5a
  • Gigabyte B560I Aorus Pro AX – F4a
  • Gigabyte B560M Aorus Elite – F4a
  • Gigabyte B560M Aorus Pro – F5a
  • Gigabyte B560M Aorus PRO AX – F6a

This isn't the first time we see a B-series motherboard capable of overclocking a processor. Soon after Intel announced the Comet Lake-S processors, Asus, MSI, and ASRock had also found a way to overclock processors using non-Z motherboards by increasing the PL1 and PL2 values. It's not clear if Gigabyte is using the same method.

KitGuru says: Hopefully this will make B560 motherboards a worthy alternative to more expensive Z-series boards for overclocking. Are you planning on building a new PC with an Intel 11th Gen processor? Would you save some money by picking up a B-series motherboard with enhanced overclocking capabilities?
