Nvidia remains confident that ARM acquisition will complete in 2022

In September last year, Nvidia announced that it reached a deal to acquire ARM for $40 billion. A number of tech companies have raised concerns over this and regulators are investigating the deal, but Nvidia remains confident that approval will be gained and the deal will go through in 2022.

During GTC 2021, Nvidia CEO, Jensen Huang, participated in an interview with Venture Beat. Jensen was asked about the ARM deal, confirming that discussions with regulators are on-going and that the deal is still on track to close in 2022.

“I’m very confident that the regulators will see the wisdom of the transaction. It will provide a surge of innovation. It will create new options for the marketplace. It will allow ARM to be expanded into markets that otherwise are difficult for them to reach themselves.”

One such area where ARM is already benefitting from partnering with Nvidia is Artificial Intelligence, bringing AI and Nvidia's accelerated computing tech to the ARM platform. Ultimately, Jensen believes regulators will “see the wisdom” in the transaction and is “confident” that the deal will close in 2022, which is the time window Nvidia expected to finish the deal at the time of announcement.

KitGuru Says: We saw the first steps of Nvidia's partnership with ARM at GTC last week, during with Nvidia announced the Grace CPU. There is still plenty of red tape to clear though, so it could be another year before we see the two companies merge.
