Thermals, Noise & Power consumption:
To test the cooling performance of the Cyberpower Hyper Liquid GTX we ran AIDA64 and Unigine Heaven for 10 minutes. We test the CPU & GPU at the same time to ensure that the cooling is sufficient to cool both chips. We also kept an eye on the temperatures during gaming to ensure the results are representative.
Idle temperatures are very good with both the CPU & GPU only a few degrees above ambient. Under load the overclocked i7-8700K reached 88C which is quite warm, but without delidding the CPU it is to be expected given the 4.8GHz overclock. The GPU is the star of the show barely going above 50C, meaning there is plenty of room for an overclock to get more gaming performance and shows that the custom loop is doing its job.
Noise Levels:
We measured fan noise levels using a sound meter while the PC was idle with no programs open, and then during stress testing to get a reading with the system under load.
The SP120 fans at the front of this case certainly make a noticeable bit of noise while idle or under load, so this PC isn't a super quiet desk companion for lovers of silence. If you're gaming with a headset on it won't be noticeable, but it could be quieter for general use.
Power Consumption:
This PC is kitted out with a good quality power supply from Corsair. The RM750x is fully modular, 80 Plus Gold certified and scored highly in our review which can be found here.
As expected from a system like this, the total power consumption is around the 450W mark, making the 750W power supply look like a sensible choice given it will be operating at peak efficiency in this system.CPU & SSD Performance:
CrystalDiskMark tests the raw speed of a storage device. It uses a test file to write data to or read data from the drive. We test using the default 1GB file size.
The Cyberpower Hyper Liquid GTX is kitted out with the recently released Samsung 970 EVO M.2 NVMe SSD which unsurprisingly kicks out some super fast speeds. It's certainly a plus that Cyberpower has opted to use such a fast drive in this build rather than a more generic M.2 SSD as it will provide even faster boot times and mean that the systems can keep up with having multiple heavy use programs open at once.
Cinebench R15:
Cinebench R15 is a cross-platform testing suite that measures CPU performance. We compare the Cyberpower Hyper Liquid GTX with some other pre-built PCs we have tested that feature similar processors for a quick comparison to demonstrate its performance.
The Cinebench score from this PC is impressive as expected. The 4.8GHz overclock on the i7-8700k provides a noticeable improvement over the stock turbo boost clock of 4.3GHz. Single-core performance is also excellent with a score of 207.
This result means that this PC should have no problem with heavy-duty multi-tasking or intensive video editing.
3D Mark testing:
For this test, we ran the Cyberpower Hyper Liquid GTX through Time Spy Extreme, Time Spy, Fire Strike, Fire Strike Extreme and Fire Strike Ultra. We first look at the overall scores given at the end of each test.
As expected the Cyberpower Hyper Liquid GTX posts some extremely high benchmark scores. It comes in the top 10% of results for the majority of the tests and easily beats the minimum requirements for a 4K gaming PC.
The below graph shows the individual results for the GPU and CPU:
The GTX 1080 Ti is a very capable GPU with a huge 11GB of memory and it performs extremely well throughout the tests. The i7-8700k is a similarly powerful chip and unsurprisingly it performs admirably in both the Physics and Overall CPU tests. Both the CPU & GPU are reasonably matched in performance and should provide plenty of power for 4K gaming.
Gaming performance:
We used the Cyberpower Hyper Liquid GTX to play 3 different popular and graphically demanding games to see just how powerful this PC is when it comes to gaming. We tested the games at 2 different image quality settings. We also tested the games at different resolutions (1080p, 1440p, 2160p) to allow for different monitor specifications.
Rise of the Tomb Raider is an action adventure game with many different environments and immersive landscapes making it a useful way to test this PC’s gaming performance. Rise of the Tomb Raider doesn’t have an ultra setting so we opted to use the very high setting. We also include screenshots of the results from the in-game benchmark.
Far Cry 5 is the most recent release we tested with the Hyper Liquid GTX. The gigantic open world of Hope County has plenty of beautiful scenery to test how well this PC performs with a brand new AAA game. We also include screenshots of the benchmark results.
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands is a game with a superb open world environment. The beautiful scenery of mountains, forests and deserts requires a lot of GPU power to render, particularly on Ultra settings. This demanding game is perfect for testing this PC’s gaming performance. We have also included screenshots of the very handy in-built benchmark.
Unsurprisingly this PC did extremely well across all of our test games. 1080p was a breeze even on ultra settings. 1440p seems to be a good sweet spot between high fps and resolution, even on the highest graphics settings. This PC can easily play these games in 4K, however you will have to sacrifice some fps at ultra settings as the games didn't always run above 60fps. However, less demanding or older games will see increased frame rates, even at 4K.
Overall this PC is plenty fast for gaming and would definitely benefit from being paired with a high refresh-rate monitor. The Cyberpower Hyper Liquid GTX is certainly a very powerful PC and is a great option for users who want a pre-built PC that features a custom watercooling loop. The components in this PC are made to be pushed to the limit and we're happy that it arrives with a decent overclock on the CPU.
However, we do think there's even more performance to be had from the CPU – after all, we know the 8700K can hit north of 5GHz, so the 4.8GHz overclock here is relatively safe. Using the Cyberpower website there's also the option to tweak the parts if you require more storage or RAM or want to save some money in certain areas.
The asking price of £2649 is reasonable. It would obviously be cheaper to buy all the components yourself and build a run-of-the-mill air cooled system, but you are obviously paying extra for the impressive custom loop that is the big selling point of this PC.
With the mirrored Corsair 570x case and plenty of RGB lighting it certainly looks the part, and of course everything stays nice and cool thanks to the EK watercooling loop. The SP120 fans aren't the quietest but if you're someone that uses a headset it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
With such high end components it was no surprise that this PC performs exceptionally well. The processor, GPU and high speed memory and storage all work together to create a great user experience.
All in all we think the Hyper Liquid GTX is a great option for someone looking to get a beautiful watercooled PC. With such powerful components it will easily provide great performance for gaming and beyond.
